Statue Photographer, Statue Photographers, Midlands, East Anglia, London, and UKPeter is fascinated with photographing statues. Statues (Outside) are interesting to photograph. Unlike people who you can take to a suitable or different location, statues are mainly fixed, and in my books more of a challange. The pose is more straight forward, but the light, angle, and lens used can still make for a wide range of pictures. My first statue love was of Bonnie Prince Charlie and Horse (I think Bronze), which can be found in Derby in between the triange of the Cathedral, Silk Mill, and Assembly Rooms. I first photographered this statue in miniture when it was still in the planning. I chose to have this statue higher than me with trees in the background. This picture was going to in to a newspaper and I thought it would give the reader a better idea of the final full sized statue. I have since from time to time photographed the full sized version in may different ways.
Statues can be in rememberance of people or purely for decoration. In Derby where I lived and grew up there are many different types of statues. The historic ones are Florrence Nightingale statue outside the DRI. This was passed by me more times than I can mention. As this was my main route from Alvaston into Derby town/city centre, The above mentioned Bonnie Prince Charlie, Sir Henry Royce, co-founder of Rolls-Royce which was on the river gardens and moved to the R-R offices on Moor Lane in the 90's. I am shaw there is another statue near the library. The decorative ones are "Boy Riding a Ram" by Wilfred Dudeney which was near Castlefields House in the Main Centre before it gave way (Demolished) for the Eagle Centre extention. This statue was in a stone block and the whole thing stood about 5ft tall. My earliest memories of this was when my mum took me and my brother to the Oden Cinema which was located nearby on London Road, Derby. I have now found it has been moved to the River Gardens behind the Council House. There is a large seated stone ram on Exchange Street 6ft tall, and a modern metal knight 18ftish at a Simms Metals scrapyard on Mansfield Road towering over the main gate. Daventry does not yet have a statue, but Rugby, and Northampton has several. A town or city is more than a collection of buildings, but there should be statues to remember the founders and people of note who lived there, (Not Jonathan Ross). Towns change around them while they look on. To see some of my statue pictures please go to my "Statue Pictures" page.
